The team behind this family-run project have created a friendly atmosphere, making sure everybody feels welcome – whether they’re on four legs or two.
One of Africa’s oldest and most respected wildlife sanctuaries, it’s been a refuge for animals for over forty years. Today, it’s home to large populations of lions, leopards, monkeys, antelope, hyena and other animals who can no longer survive in the wild.
As a volunteer here, you’ll enjoy a very diverse experience. As well as working with many different species, you’ll get involved with lots of different types of conservation work.
Day to day, you’ll help to feed, exercise and care for the animals who live here. In the project’s animal clinic, you’ll also work with experienced vets to look after injured and sick animals. Through the project’s Epic Kids programme, you’ll have the chance to meet local Zimbabwean children and educate the next generation about the importance of caring for wildlife.
As well as conservation work, you’ll also get to explore Zimbabwe’s natural beauty, including a trip to the largest waterfall in the world, Victoria Falls, and Matopos National Park, which is famed for its populations of wild rhino, leopard and black eagles.
If you’re passionate about wildlife and want to explore the world of conservation from every possible angle, this is definitely the travel experience for you.
"It was definitely one of the best experiences of my life. The people there topped off the experience and I have so many good memories, I'd recommend it to everyone and anyone - just thinking about my trip makes me want to go back!"
Since 1999, our organisation has empowered gap year travellers to work hands-on with Africa’s wildlife. As experts in conservation, we’ve helped thousands of volunteers gain skills for their university applications or future careers, all while creating gap year experiences that are anything but tame.
We’ve also supported those that are simply searching for a meaningful wildlife experience instead of the usual safari holiday. We do this by offering a variety of opportunities including being able to volunteer at wildlife care and rehabilitation centres to aid orphaned and injured animals; assist with wildlife conservation management in order to monitor priority species and contribute to vital research; and being able to live the life of an African wildlife vet while meeting the requirements for Extra Mural Studies (EMS) and Animal Husbandry Extra Mural Studies (AHEMS).
Together, we can create a brighter future for Africa’s wildlife.
