The life of stray dogs in Sri Lanka is difficult due to a general lack of public awareness. Many live on the streets in precarious conditions, and numerous unsterilized females give birth to puppies every year, often abandoned in front of temples or clinics.
This project is carried out in collaboration with a non-profit organization committed to protecting stray dogs in southern Sri Lanka. Supported by a team of over 40 professionals (veterinarians, caretakers, and assistants), it supervises volunteers and ensures proper animal care follow-up. Like all our animal care internships abroad, this program allows students to validate their academic year while contributing to animal protection efforts.
This specialized program is aimed at veterinary medicine students who have completed at least two years of studies. It requires a minimum commitment of three weeks, with an average of eight hours per day. Students assist an experienced veterinarian, learn from them, and actively participate in animal care.
Daily tasks include:
Through these tasks, participants play a key role in improving the living conditions of stray dogs in Sri Lanka.
