Cape Verde Education Project

Cape Verde unfortunately often suffers from severe droughts, which cause major economic and social problems.

For the 42 children divided among 3 kindergarten and primary school classes, there are only 7 teachers to provide supervision and educational programs, which explains the strong need for volunteers.
Your day starts at 9 am and ends at 4 pm, Monday to Friday.

Volunteers and interns mainly assist local teachers in their daily tasks with the children. Participants with experience (such as youth work certificates, teaching studies, etc.) or good Portuguese skills will be given additional responsibilities. All participants receive lessons upon arrival to learn a few words of Portuguese.

Some examples of tasks you may carry out:

• Introduce children to numbers and the alphabet in English.
• Organize group activities such as board games, modeling clay, or coloring.
• Create physical education and sports games.
• Teach children about colors, shapes, and other cognitive exercises.
• Teach popular songs and poems.
• Share information, stories, and anecdotes about your home country and culture.
• Keep a record of the lessons you deliver, so that future participants can build on your methods and materials, ensuring continuity in the children’s learning at the partner school of the humanitarian association Enfance Afrique.
