Turtle conservation in Phnang Nga

TURTLE PROTECTION IN THAILAND

This observation project allows volunteers to participate in the conservation of the marine ecosystem in the Phang Nga region of Thailand.
The missions vary depending on the season. During the dry season, the program focuses on the protection of the coastal and marine ecosystems. During the rainy season, it focuses more on the terrestrial environment.

VOLUNTEER SCHEDULE

In this project, you will be involved in various areas of land conservation, community development, and environmental awareness. The activities are very diverse, with a particular emphasis on long-term environmental protection. Turtle research will take place approximately two days per week.

TYPICAL ACTIVITIES DURING THE PROJECT INCLUDE:

• Optimizing and designing turtle enclosures
• Collecting turtle morphological data
• Assisting the Phang Nga Coastal Fisheries Research and Development Center (CFRDC) and the turtle breeding facility at the Phang Nga Navy Base
• Cleaning the enclosures with brushes and the turtles with sponges
• Treating the turtles with antibacterial and antifungal medical treatments
• Depending on the season, you may contribute to the release of hundreds of young turtles into the ocean
• Beach cleaning
• Bird surveys
• Coral surveys
• Research on Butterflies
• Mangrove Planting

DURING THE RAINY SEASON (MAY TO OCTOBER)

The focus will be on studying biodiversity in the island's national parks.
