INTERN AT THE HEART OF A NATURE RESERVE

Volunteers will assist the founders of the reserve in their daily tasks. They will take part in a wide variety of activities:
• Supporting ongoing studies and research on the region's local wildlife and flora.
• Enhancing communication with nearby communities to promote mutual understanding and encourage rural community involvement in conservation efforts.
• Monitoring (fitting tracking collars, camera traps) of lions, elephants, buffalos, leopards, cheetahs, and hyenas to record behavioral and environmental data for the preservation of these species.
• Daily monitoring of white rhinos with the specialized anti-poaching unit.
• Inspecting, maintaining, and repairing fencing to ensure animal safety.
• Occasional animal capture and construction of passive capture devices.
• Eradicating invasive exotic plants to protect endangered habitats.
• Conservation awareness and education programs in local community schools.

The animals roam freely, so direct contact is not always possible, but you will contribute meaningfully to the preservation of endangered species in South Africa. Leopards, cheetahs, buffalos, rhinos, elephants, 395 species of birds, giraffes, zebras, blue wildebeests, impalas, and many small mammals and primates await you.

OBJECTIVE OF THE NATURE RESERVE PROJECT

Due to habitat destruction, human encroachment, poaching, and other factors contributing to the decline of numerous animal species, our nature reserve is committed to the protection of wildlife and biodiversity conservation in South Africa.

FIELD TRAINING

• All field training will be included as part of the project. A comprehensive briefing on the project, the environment, and any relevant topics will be held upon arrival at camp.
• Skills to identify vertebrate animals, their names, and signs of their presence.
• Radio telemetry, GPS use, and wildlife research techniques.
