Designed to feel like a holiday with purpose, you’ll have guided whale watching trips and paddleboarding with whales to observe humpback whales, collect behavioural data and explore estuaries on seahorse safaris in the warm Mozambican waters. All activities are led by qualified marine biologists, and every guest plays a role in data collection that contributes to our long-term research. This expedition is well suited to solo travellers, couples and family groups.

Throughout your stay, you’ll enjoy private chef-prepared meals, sundowners with a view, and the chance to unwind between outings – or upgrade to include optional scuba dives if you want to see even more of our incredible coastline. This is the perfect conservation getaway for anyone who wants to contribute meaningfully to marine science while relaxing in one of the most beautiful, untouched parts of Africa.

Get ready for unforgettable ocean safaris guided by our marine biologists, offering you the rare chance to get up close with Mozambique’s awe-inspiring humpback whale migration. On these ethical whale watching trips you’ll actively contribute to real research. Guests are invited to bring their cameras and assist with photographing whale flukes to help build our long-term ID catalogue of individual whales passing through Jangamo.
Experience the magic of sharing the ocean with humpback whales in one of the most peaceful, humbling ways possible: on a stand-up paddleboard. You don’t need to have paddleboarded before, but you should be a confident swimmer and comfortable kneeling down as you’ll kneel on the paddleboard a lot. Because the paddleboards are non-motorised, the whales are more likely to approach us – on their own terms. It’s not uncommon for them to glide right beneath the boards, offering a truly unforgettable encounter.
You can also participate in a seahorse safari - a guided exploration of the nearby estuary and mangrove ecosystem. This shallow, protected environment is home to an incredible array of marine life. Above water, you might even spot flamingos feeding in the shallows.

You’ll have the opportunity to deepen your understanding of the marine world through optional evening talks delivered by our experienced marine biologists. These relaxed sessions are designed to complement your field experiences, helping you connect what you’re seeing in the water with the science behind it.

Die Freiwilligen-Organisation stellt sich vor

We're a multi award-winning grassroots marine conservation organisation committed to protecting our planet’s oceans through innovative, community-driven solutions.

Through our ethical conservation volunteering expeditions, we offer individuals the opportunity to get hands-on with marine research and community work, contributing to real solutions for ocean health. Join us in empowering communities and conserving oceans—because protecting our planet starts with local action and global vision.

We believe that healthy marine ecosystems are vital for the well-being of both people and wildlife, and our mission is to create scalable conservation strategies that can be replicated in coastal regions around the world. By combining cutting-edge science, education, and sustainable practices, we empower coastal communities to take the lead in protecting their marine resources. From monitoring megafauna like sharks and rays to reducing ocean trash and promoting sustainable fishing, our projects are designed to address the unique challenges of ocean conservation while ensuring lasting, positive impacts for the people who rely on these ecosystems.

We are working to establish a Marine Protected Area, safeguard biodiversity, and create solutions that can inspire action on a global scale.
