Dive in the Coral Triangle: a unique citizen science experience to protect marine biodiversity.

Einsatzort: Indonesien, Asien
Aktions-Bereich: Natur-und Umweltschutz, Expeditionen
Dive into the heart of the Coral Triangle and help protect one of the richest and most threatened marine ecosystems. As an ecovolunteer, take part in scientific dives to restore coral reefs and raise awareness among local communities. Live a human and ecological adventure in service of Sulawesi Island’s marine biodiversity.

Projekt und Rolle der Freiwilligen

In the heart of the Coral Triangle, the Konawe region, located in the southeast of the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, is home to marine ecosystems of priceless richness. Yet this exceptional ecosystem is now under threat: mining activities destroy natural habitats, plastic waste pollutes the waters, and invasive species endanger local biodiversity.

In response to these challenges, our marine conservation program organizes participative science diving missions to better understand and protect these underwater treasures, while preserving the delicate balance between humans and nature.

The role of the ecovolunteer:
Most of your citizen science actions will take place during scuba dives:

- Ecological monitoring: Participate in scientific dives to inventory marine flora and fauna and monitor coral reef health.

- Combatting invasive species: Help manage outbreaks of crown-of-thorns starfish (Acanthaster), destructive predators that threaten coral survival.

- Ecosystem restoration: Contribute to mangrove replanting and the regeneration of damaged coral reefs.

Also, in small fishing villages, in contact with local populations:

- Raising community awareness: Lead workshops and discussions to promote sustainable marine resource management.

- If you wish, you may also enhance your mission by creating artistic or audiovisual content (videos, photos, illustrations, travel journals), to share the beauty of these places and the importance of their preservation.

Supervision and field conditions:

The missions are supervised by an experienced local team, which prepares the activities based on the project’s needs about one month before departure. Scientific protocols are adapted to best suit the conditions on the ground. You will operate in particularly remote and preserved areas, offering a true change of scenery.

The comfort provided is simple and functional, in harmony with the environment, far from modern conveniences. This adventure requires flexibility and adaptability, as unforeseen events may occur.

Die Freiwilligen-Organisation stellt sich vor

Since 2009, we have been actively working to protect and promote the last remaining threatened biodiversity sanctuaries, particularly the Makay massif (Madagascar) and the island of Sulawesi (Indonesia), two territories of exceptional ecological richness.

Born out of naturalist scientific expeditions, our organization works hand in hand with local and international interdisciplinary researchers to study and document the richness of these unique ecosystems, thereby building a strong case for the creation of protected areas.

At the same time, we work closely with local communities, developing a holistic approach to sustainable development focused on social, environmental, and economic aspects. It implements concrete actions with and for the populations to improve their living conditions, well-being, and to promote local and sustainable management of natural areas.

Protecting these biodiversity sanctuaries also means raising awareness and mobilizing the international community. Through documentaries, exhibitions, and educational science outreach programs, our organization introduces these territories to the general public and raises awareness about the urgency of their protection. We also offer citizens the opportunity to get actively involved through ecovolunteering missions.
So wählen wir die Organisationen auf unserem Portal aus.

No scientific qualifications are necessary : just motivation, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn!
Unterbringung & Verpflegung:
You will sleep in tents on remote beaches, fully immersed in nature, lulled by the sound of the waves. Meals are prepared with products from Kendari, local catch, and nearby fruits and vegetables.
