Experience the magic of the Aegean Sea while helping to protect its fragile marine ecosystems. This impactful project in Greece gives you the chance to earn a diving certification, remove marine debris, and contribute to the conservation of some of Europe’s most endangered ocean species.
Based on the beautiful island of Alonissos, you’ll join a passionate local team working inside the largest marine protected area in Europe. The focus is on safeguarding marine life, from dolphins and sea turtles to the critically endangered Mediterranean monk seal.
What is this project about?
Marine environments around Greece are under threat from pollution, overfishing, and tourism. This project responds with hands-on action—removing plastic and waste from the sea, monitoring endangered species, and educating communities on how to protect their waters for generations to come.
What will I be doing?
Before beginning conservation work, you’ll complete your PADI Open Water diving course (or an advanced level, depending on your experience). This qualification prepares you for safe and effective underwater work throughout your stay.
Tasks include:
Diving in the marine park to remove plastic waste, fishing nets, and other debris from the seabed
Assisting with species monitoring and marine data collection during dives
Taking part in environmental awareness activities and educational workshops
Supporting with community outreach and beach clean-up initiatives
Attending dive briefings, safety checks, and marine conservation sessions each day
Why choose this project?
Earn your PADI scuba certification while volunteering for a purpose
Make a visible difference to the health of the marine environment
Help protect rare species like monk seals, sea turtles, and dolphins
Gain real conservation experience through science-based fieldwork
Live and volunteer in one of the most naturally stunning parts of Greece
Whether you're a beginner or an experienced diver, this project offers the rare opportunity to combine personal development with marine protection. You’ll leave with new skills, unforgettable memories, and the satisfaction of having contributed to preserving one of Europe’s most precious natural treasures.
