The Makay Massif, a natural treasure of Madagascar, is severely degraded due to the poverty and isolation of local populations.
Lacking sustainable economic alternatives and facing population growth, these communities increasingly exploit natural resources, which gradually reduces biodiversity.
The project aims to turn the Makay Massif into a protected area by working closely with local populations.
The holistic approach combines social, environmental, and economic dimensions to promote sustainable development tailored to the realities on the ground. The goal is to improve living conditions while ensuring the sustainable local management of natural resources.
Ecovolunteers do not follow a fixed program!
They are adapted to local needs and projects, which evolve throughout the year. Around one month before your departure, the Malagasy team defines the priorities to incorporate the most relevant activities.
Your tasks:
- Agricultural and environmental activities:
Upkeep of vegetable gardens, nurseries, and beehives through small improvement tasks. Assistance with tree planting: watering, monitoring, counting healthy saplings, updating the reforestation registry, all under the supervision of local nursery managers.
- Environmental education:
When the mission coincides with the school year, participation in educational activities in schools and villages using appropriate teaching tools. You will also help create or improve these tools and train local facilitators through workshops and brainstorming sessions.
- School renovation work:
If the stay takes place during school holidays, these activities replace the education component. You'll carry out small repairs (plastering, doors, shutters), paint, and assemble school furniture (benches and desks).
These missions are supervised by our local partner’s team.
You will be immersed in remote, exotic areas, in contact with a new culture and unique natural ecosystems — an adventure that will take you out of your comfort zone!
- Optional:
If you wish, you can also enhance your mission by creating artistic or audiovisual content (photos, videos, travel journal) to raise public awareness about the beauty and conservation of this exceptional territory.
