Einsatzort: Nepal, Asien
Aktions-Bereich: Soziale Freiwilligen-Projekte, mit Frauen und Mädchen, Unterricht & Bildung
Head to beautiful Nepal to volunteer on a women's empowerment project in the local community. Work closely with women living in rural areas, helping them to learn English, maths, and running workshops on key skills to improve their employment potential. Being able to support themselves and break the gender inequality is incredibly important for the women in this community, which you can support.

Projekt und Rolle der Freiwilligen

About the project
This women's empowerment project is dedicated to narrowing the gender gap in education in Pokhara. In Nepal, education is valued highly, but due to poverty many women must drop out of school at a young age and this often means that their career prospects are limited. As a volunteer you can help address this issue and get involved in initiatives that are created in partnership with local women.

Pokhara, the second largest city in Nepal, is a lakeside city surrounded by beautiful and iconic Himalayan mountains. Living in this stunning city, you will get full immersion into the local community and you will get to use your weekends to explore.

The teaching
Each day, you will work 1-1, or in small groups, with local women, helping them to gain confidence in written and spoken English. You may also work with a team of volunteers on initiatives in the city centre, tailored to the needs of the women. These include running workshops on health issues, finance, crafts, IT and more. These are fun events but also help women to gain confidence and new skills, both of which will help them when they look to apply for jobs.

During your placement, you will receive basic TEFL training (although not the full qualification) and guidance on how to teach on a women's empowerment programme. This will improve your skills and ensure that both you and the women benefit from the volunteering experience.

Living in Nepal
You will be living with other volunteers in shared accommodation, run by and home to an amazing Nepali family. Volunteers share the bottom three floors (in single-sex dorm rooms), while the host family live on the top floor of the building. You will receive 3 home cooked meals a day, offering you a chance to sample the delicious local cuisine. You will also have a project coordinator on site, who will help you make the most out of your time in Pokhara.
