Volunteers are needed to support the teaching and ongoing community work in Ghana. We have roles available for volunteers with and without teaching experience.
Teaching volunteers with experience are able to draw on their own skills and have the opportunity to get involved in the following lessons when required:
Volunteers with teaching experience can work alongside the local teachers to support lessons and run lessons in specific topics. The students at the local primary and middle school are aged between 6 to 21 years old.
Volunteers that do not have teaching experience run after school and lunch time sessions which can include:
When the schools are on holiday, the team of volunteers organise popular school holiday activities camps for the local children.
Teaching volunteers work with the local team to educate local communities on the importance of hand washing and school attendance through interactive sessions.
Although English is the national language of Ghana, the level of English in this area is low. All primary and secondary school subjects in Ghana are taught in English, so a good understanding of the language is vital for furthering their education. Education is key to solving many of the root causes of poverty and by providing additional English tuition, volunteers are directly improving the children’s prospects.
Increasing health education and the understanding of hygiene through the charity initiative means that less children fall ill from preventable diseases, and thus less time is taken off school unwell.
Volunteering as a teacher in Ghana allows the school pupils to increase their level of conversational English, as well as receive new teaching concepts from experienced teachers in the classroom. Experienced teachers are able to share their skills and techniques with the local teachers.
Volunteers are able to provide additional lessons to the school which has limited resources by providing lunch time, after school and holiday classes.
