What’s this all about?
Whilst not at western standards yet, the standard of media coverage in Ghana is improving and, through this project, you can help make a significant contribution to this progression.
You’ll gain a first hand experience into Ghana’s media culture, gaining a valuable insight into the industry while helping to support under-funded newspapers, TV networks and radio stations. Working alongside the local journalists, you will get a genuine and diverse taste of the environment in which you are reporting, and you will no doubt cover several eye-opening issues that are unique to Ghana.
To be eligible you will need good literary and communication skills. Editing, copywriting, reporting, interviewing, and researching are all possible roles that you might adopt.
What can I do?
If you are looking for media experience, we can create an internship that will match your interests and you can choose from the following options:
Positions range from researchers at a local paper to being the half-time analyst for football matches on TV! Our extensive links will allow you to experiment in a number of different spheres.
Day to day
As a journalism intern, you should expect to work a 09:00 - 17:00 day Monday to Friday, although this can vary depending on what you are involved in. There will be many opportunities to get real experience in the field, working alongside some of Ghana’s leading journalists. Treated as one of the team, you will get to go with your colleagues to press events, providing you with a unique insight into the job role. The team you will work with will be supportive. They love to meet new interns and to learn about subjects you are passionate about, helping you to make the most out of your experience.
At the end of the internship, you will have a portfolio of work that you can return home with. Perfect for people looking to study journalism in the future.
This internship can also be completed as part of a university elective or dissertation. If you would like more information on this, please do get in contact.
In your free time you will have plenty of time to explore the beaches, to shop at the many outdoor markets and to travel at the weekend. If you are looking for a country that is full of excitement, passion and the unexpected, look no further than Ghana.
